Mundane Tasks

“The victory of success is half won when one gains the habit of setting goals and achieving them. Even the most tedious chore will become endurable as you parade through each day convinced that every task, no matter how menial or boring, brings you closer to fulfilling your dreams.” By Og Mandino from http://www.healthstream.com

Sometimes we do not realize the importance of mundane things. Take for instance, getting up in the morning, getting dressed, having a cup of coffee, taking the dogs out, putting gas in the car, getting to work, going to the grocery store, cleaning your house, cleaning up the yard, setting out the trash, getting the mail, updating your electronic device, washing the dishes. I could go on. My point is at least you have all those mundane, perhaps menial or boring tasks of everyday life to do.

At least you have a life of which you can fulfill your dreams. When we do the menial, boring things in life they somehow help us to think better, to imagine the impossible. See I’m a runner and the more I run the more my head clears so I can think of those things which need to be sorted through and things I want to do.

Perhaps it is my bucket list, perhaps a better job or a more meaningful one. We all have a dream which we want to set goals for and we all want to achieve the dream. Yet sometimes we sidetrack ourselves because we don’t think we have the time. When our mundane things do not get done we lose precious moments of thoughtlessness or something which is therapeutic. It stops us from thinking clearly. It warps our sense of having a dream or any hope.

Today, let us dream the impossible; let us keep all the mundane things in our life so we can be thinkers and doers. However, tedious the task it just gets us closer to those things in which we dream. Each morning I am grateful for waking up, for being able to dress myself, for having a cup to put my coffee in, for my dogs, for a car, for a job, for money to buy groceries, for a house to clean, for a yard, for trash in my life, for mail from someone, for an electric device to communicate with, and for dishes to wash. This means I am fulfilling my dreams each day and I am grateful for having each day in order to dream another day.

Give joy to each task because it means something.
